Summer’s Selections: 5 Things I’m Loving Lately

Save

Hi, Refine+Define readers! I’m Summer Kath and I’ll be stopping by from time to time to share fresh finds and my favorite trends in the design world. As part of my design director and business development roles at Cambria, I’m always seeking new sources of inspiration. Travel, nature, fashion, Instagram … you name it!

Here are five of my current design faves—I hope they spark inspiration for you as well:

Luxurious closet islands

I love the idea of translating the beauty and function of a kitchen island into a closet. A closet island is the perfect opportunity to showcase your style and take more risks than you might in your kitchen. A Cambria natural stone countertop is ideal for laying out style choices, using retail inspiration to showcase accessories, and keeping essentials at hand. I’m swooning over these spaces featured in Cambria Style: a men’s closet island with sophisticated Sharpham, women’s closet with a dramatic Ellesmere waterfall island. Talk about closet goals!

Two-toned kitchen cabinets

I’m a big fan of the high contrast aesthetic, and a simple way to achieve it in your kitchen is with two-tone cabinetry. Any two hues will do, but you can’t go wrong with a black-and-white kitchen palette. This rental kitchen renovation from Patti Wagner (@patticakewagner) features black lower cabinets, white upper cabinets, Weybourne countertops, and warm wood flooring. This look is sometimes referred to as a “tuxedo kitchen”—a fitting name for a space that’s always dressed for the occasion!

Natural gold countertop veining

Golden touches, like brass pulls or pendants, are an elegant add to any room. But weaving natural gold details into the overall scheme of the space packs a more powerful punch. Enter my current crush: Brittanicca Gold, inspired in part by the rugged canyon terrain of Serifos, Greece, from my travels last summer. A stunning stone surface for a kitchen island, backsplash, or even that dream closet! With organic gold marble veining and translucent greige streams, this Marble Collection™ design truly captures the essence of its inspiration. It’s elegant, inviting, and oh-so-versatile. You can pair with matte black and brass accents, warm woods and white, or pops of pattern and color. Find ideas in this design roundup of Brittanicca Gold, Brittanicca Warm, and Brittanicca. In this space, Brittanicca Gold makes for a captivating backsplash and countertops amid black and white cabinetry.

Vibrant home inspiration from the Bright Bazaar blog

With design inspo in droves, Will Taylor (@brightbazaar) is a must follow. His new beach house kitchen renovation has me dreaming of a winter getaway. It should be no surprise I love a space with summer vibes, right? Slate blue cabinets are a crisp new neutral, pairing beautifully with the Torquay Matte countertops and the light gray peninsula for another twist on the two-tone cabinetry trend. And how chic is that cabinet panel over the fridge? Such a smart choice for a small kitchen space! See more of this space and other kitchens with two-toned cabinets in our coastal kitchen post.

Design decisions made easy with AR apps

I have the most fun when I’m in the daydream phase of a renovation project. But sometimes my wild ideas can be hard to visualize, so it’s helpful to have tools on my side. My go-to right now is the sleek Cambria AR app. With a simple scan and swipe, you can try out Cambria designs in your space. I’ve found myself gravitating to choices I didn’t expect! If you’re wavering between a few design choices, it’s a great resource for gathering feedback. And if you’re set on your design, it’s the best way to convince someone of your brilliant vision! Download the Cambria AR app here (iPhone, iOS 11.0 or later).
